چکیده

This work was supported primarily by the Engineering Research Centers Program of the National Science Foundation under Award Number EEC-9876363. AbstractThe VaNTH Engineering Research Center in Bioengineering Educational Technologies is dedicated to the development of new approaches to bioengineering education. The center is a partnership among Vanderbilt University, Northwestern University, University of Texas at Austin and the Harvard/MIT Health Sciences and Technology Program (VaNTH). Through collaboration with learning scientists, we are developing new ways to formulate and deliver learning materials in bioengineering. The Center houses projects in basic learning science and technology that can be applied in bioengineering education at all levels, projects aimed at the development of new materials in the principal domains of bioengineering, projects on the formulation of new computing methods for course delivery and projects in the development of assessment methods for the effectiveness of these materials. New concepts stemming from psychology and neuroscience illuminating how people learn will undergird the effort to develop new technologies.

Assessing Pedagogy in Bioengineering Classrooms: Quantifying Elements of the â•œHow People Learnâ•š Model Using the VaNTH Observation System (VOS)

One goal of the VaNTH Engineering Research Center is to estimate the effects of the “value added” to bioengineering student learning as a result of “How People Learn” (HPL) framework interventions. A necessary step in that process is to assess pedagogical differences in both lecture-based and HPL-oriented courses. Data from 28 bioengineering courses, over five semesters, were analyzed using a n...

Integration of Science and Technology in Primary Curriculum

One of the main issues to be considered in the educational system is education. Education is the result of four elements which are interacting with each other. These four elements are: teaching, learning, structure and curriculum. Curriculum is a plan for action which forms the structure. Another issue is the status of knowledge and the way we can transform it into educational materials. In pos...
